Stichting Business Universiteit (SBU, in English: "Business University Foundation") is an initiative of self-employed entrepreneurs Mr. P. Doeve PhD, Mr. E.J. de Jonge, J. Scholtz and B. Groote.
The university gets his name from the region in The Netherlands where we are based. Our principle is to use sustainable entrepreneurship to achieve sustainable progress*
in the ‘Northern Holland’ region of the Netherlands. To accomplish this, we have set up a private business university with accredited programs in the field of applied sustainability,
entrepreneurship and internet technology. The curricula are developed in close collaboration with the industry, so the courses fully meet the actual needs of the market.
The SBU will also set up a research center, where new technologies and products are developed and tested and new business models are developed. At this time a start is made with the
research center for sustainable transport. The SBU research center also serves as an international business platform where entrepreneurs and companies can share knowledge and experience.
*Sustainable progress: Sustainable progress is the growing movement that continuously promotes the human health, vitality, progressiveness and environment, with respect for and in close and harmonious relationship with the constantly changing environment in which we live and work.

Distinctive education
Stichting Business Universiteit develops curricula in the areas applied sustainability, internet technology en entrepreneurship. Our approach differs from other traditional educational institutions, because we offer only specialized education and require that students apply the learned theory to their daily practice in an improvement project. The results from the project are an integral part of the study and will directly benefit the student's organization.
We strive to ensure that education programs are increasingly used to develop and implement innovations in the industry. Therefore, next to regular curricula, we have developed in-company courses, wherein the format is practical innovations. We do not have a profit objective and invest our accumulated equity in applied research and continuous innovation in teaching curricula, so that our curricula remain connected to the actual business. We also offer companies a platform to innovate themselves and implement long-term improvements so the continuity of their organization will be further guaranteed. Sustainability is an important starting point for these innovations.
Sustainable living, learning and working
Our start-up office is located in the Goorn and we have many warm relationships in the 'Northern Holland’ region. This region is currently characteristic of shrinkage and decline of the economy and the withdrawal of public services from the region. This has triggered us to implement sustainable progress in our own region and thus to reverse the decline in healthy growth. In close cooperation with regional and local entrepreneurs and the Chamber of Commerce, SBU has the shared ambition to create a knowledge region and to attract new businesses that focus on sustainability. The first step to improving the economic development is attracting higher education in the form of setting up a business university in the North Holland peninsula. Alkmaar investors are willing to finance this educational institute that will have a different approach than traditional schools.
